I just read a stat about the that workers' pandemic-related absences have cost employers more than $78.4 billion — nearly $1 billion each week — according to a Dec. 20 analysis from the Integrated Benefits Institute. In the same article from HR Drive, another stat stood out to me:
Stress can cost employees hours of work time, a 2020 Headspace survey found. A quarter of the respondents said they lose an hour of work per day to stress. A fifth said they lose up to two hours.
I wonder if we can determine what caregiving stress costs us. When I’m stressed, I struggle to take a walk, to reach out for support, to sleep well at night.
My stress can definitely impact my relationships with my parents, for instance. When I’m stressed, I don’t have the bandwidth to be patient.
I’m sure my stress costs me time in my day. The greater cost is to my well-being and my relationships.
How about you? What does your stress cost you?
